Russia’s Novatek sees second line of Yamal LNG as floating plant
MOSCOW, Mar 24 (PRIME) -- Russian independent gas producer Novatek may set the second line of the Yamal LNG project as a floating liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant in the Murmansk Region, Deputy Industry and Trade Minister Andrei Dutov told reporters Tuesday.
“Novatek is studying options for the construction of the Yamal LNG’s second line. One of them is a floating LNG plant near the Belokamenka vessel. The project is at the initial stage of development. The idea was announced to the Industry and Trade and the Energy ministries,” Dutov said, adding that Novatek has asked the ministries to study the project’s reasonability.
No feasibility study has been done yet, and it is too early to speak about any project’s details, he added.
The Yamal LNG project envisages the construction of a $26.9 billion LNG plant on the resource base of the Yuzhno-Tambeiskoye field. Novatek owns 60% in Yamal LNG, while France’s Total and China’s CNPC own 20% each. The project’s first line is expected to be launched in 2017.
